Studio Brief 2: Initial scamps

The initial scamps show the ways in which I have thought about using feelings, colours and words in attempt to portray the ways in which the clothes would make you feel rather than focusing on the looks. The colours use in the scamps are not accurate for the feeling being portrayed, they are used only to see if the idea would work. Figure 1 shows the ideas to be using coloured geometric shapes as a way to reflect the intended feelings that are expected when wearing the particular style of clothing. For example with sportswear, Topshop would want the customer to be feeling energetic and full of energy so the colour scheme would need to reflect this. The scamps then show how words and typography could be used to directly tell the audience the feeling that the style of clothing could make them feel if they were to wear them.

Typography
I thought it would be important to try and find a typeface that was similar to the one that Topshop used so that the final outcomes would be realistic and actually suitable for the client. I took a screen grab (fig. 3) of the logotype from the website www.topshop.com so that I could upload it to www.whatfontis.com to try to find a typeface that was as similar to this as possible. The website identifies the letters and you have to confirm it by typing in either upper or lower case (fig. 4) and then confirming. Figure 5 shows the top typefaces to match the Topshop logotype, but they were all typefaces that had to be purchased. I found a free typeface called AquawaxLight (fig. 6) which was a close match to the Topshop logotype. I will be using this throughout the design process to create a mock up that is accurate as possible.
