How has Graphic Design influenced political changes in the UK during the 21st Century?

Intro
- political parties relying on the power of publicitiy, branding and visual messages
- influencing society
- visual communication methods to influence

Colour schemes
- each party has a colour to build a strong and recognised visual identity
- colour has a big influence because it can be includd in a lot of different formats
- historical associations to particular colours

Human instincts
- fear, happiness, guilt, attachment etc. can be taken advantage of within advertising to ensure that the parties communicate effectively
- 'Let's give our NHS the 350 million the EU takes every week'
- The World Wildlife Fund using powerful imagery to ensure that the audience stops to think
- making an advert personal will increase the chances of people engaging with what is being said

Advertising
- consistent advertising design allows for a visual identity to be built for each of the parties
- an effective way for all of the policies to be made public and in a more interesting way compared to releasing a simple list
- responding to the policies of other parties to try and make theirs seem better

Social class
- more influence within the left-wing, often portraying a negative association to the right-wing political parties and their beliefs
- the dominant class tended to favour fine art, so graphic design became a popular method of distribution
- graphic design seen to be 'trendy', so often the messages communicated are taken notice of

Growth in print media
- influence of Graphic design has allowed for this as fine art would have been too expensive and only accessible to those with money
- increased publicity
- accessible to everyone
- easy to distribute
- political influence increased
- no party has any more advantage as it is a cheap method of campaigning

Alternative posters
- reactions to the official campaigns that are released are often more influential
- a democratic society allows for freedom to vote without influence, but the increase of visual communication may be an influence
- very strong opinions published
- on trend so followers of the particular designers may be more inclined to vote that particular way to feel on trend
- Supermundane released a poster series called 'Open your eyes to the Tory lies' which are very explicit as to which party they are supporting
- reaching a larger number of people within society
