Visual investigation: Location research

The design idea that I have chosen to develop requires a trip to London to take the photographs in the polluted location, using the Pantone swatches that I have designed.

I researched the top things to do in Brixton, London so that the most popular locations can be used in the photographs with the hope that more people will recognise the location and engage with the message that is trying to be shared. I will need between 4-8 different locations so that there will be one location per type of health problem that air pollution can cause, or at least the option to include this many in the campaign if when designed it is decided to be suitable.

The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton would be a suitable location to include because it is a 'landmark' that a large number of people would associate and recognise to be located within Brixton.

Brockwell Park would be an interesting location to include as part of the campaign because most people would not associate big green outdoor spaces with the topic of air pollution. This makes the inclusion of this location powerful because it will take the audience by surprise that even in the park the air pollution is very much present and damaging to your health.

Brixton Village is a community of vintage traders and artisan food sellers all located within a transformed arcade.  The independent coffee shops are something very popular within this arcade, so either featuring some of these or the general view looking down the arcade would be appropriate to use in terms of association that this is in Brixton and not just a random location.

The Pop Brixton is an inexpensive eating area housed in shipping containers. It would be good to include as part of the campaign because it will reach the younger and trendier part of the target audience as it is a popular place to hang out at the weekends when it is open. This location will be included depending on what day of the week I visit London, as it may not be open if I visit midweek.

Brockwell Lido is located on the Dulwich Road side of Brockwell Park, it is a grade-2 listed building that has been restored and expanded to include a leisure centre as well as an outdoor pool. The use of an outdoor space would once again be interesting to include because the audience would probably not think that the air pollution would be present in an area like this.

Morleys department store opened its doors in Brixton in 1880 and survived a substantial fire in 1927. This 'landmark' in Brixton would be good to feature as part of the campaign because it is another thing that is recognised to be located in Brixton.

The street art and murals in Brixton have become a popular visiting reason for many people, so finding some of these would be good to add some colour and engage with the target audience that are interesting in creative locations.

The O2 Academy is one of the main reasons people visit Brixton as the music scene here is very big, hosting some very popular artists and big events. This would be interesting to include as part of the campaign because something enjoyable shouldn't be killing you without you even realising.
